Stop. Eject. Flip to Side B.
After a summer of things not going quite as planned, I am ready to shake off the disappointment and look forward. I was aware of how hard things were going to be after graduation and I am prepared for what's coming my way. Thanks to an opportunity that came my way today, I am working on landing a project that will hopefully open the door to new possibilities. I am revived with new goals to reach and so inspired that I've been sketching all day!
Life is pretty much a series of overwhelming obstacles and challenges but sometimes the simplest words from someone can give you a moment of clarity that's all you need to turn it all around. That's all it took to snap me out of it and get back to what matters.
New sketches & work to be posted soon - so stay tuned! For now I'll leave you with something that made me smile today:

Duckie and John
Here's a sketch for yet another project idea I'm hoping to work on. In memory of John Hughes - quite possibly the greatest writer/producer/directors in my lifetime - I want to do a piece commemorating him and the characters he brought to life on the big screen. This one of Duckie, (of Pretty in Pink), who happens to be my personal favorite.

Senior Thesis
Finally, my senior project is unveiled! 6 months of hard work, sleep deprivation, patience and lots of paper cuts.
Music has always been a driving force in my work, so I wanted to express my appreciation through my senior project in a way that was uniquely me. Using a variety of media - acrylic, sculpture, pen and ink, digital and cut paper dioramas - I wanted to interpret the infinite feeling that washes over me when I’m attending a live show. By creating the bands’ environments in different illustrative styles, I aimed to portray how I like to envision them when I’m listening to their albums. The Shins’ music, for example, gives me a sense of wonder and whimsy, while the raw sound of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs makes me imagine how theatrical and fearless they are in their concerts. My inspiration in the styles came from my admiration for the work of Mary Blair, Maurice Sendak and Adam Rex.
I’d like to think that the audience for my work spans across generations. I wanted to attempt to have something for everyone in this project - from children’s book illustration to editorial work in music magazines like SPIN to toy design.
This project is dedicated to my older brothers - Mike, Robert and Steven- who let me tag along to shows with them and their friends over the years and to my mother for always encouraging me to follow my dreams.
